School Excellence
These Activities give students a deep appreciation of citizenship, sportsmanship and creativity.
Research clearly shows that students who participate in arts, athletics or other co-curricular activities are better prepared for college. Plus, arts, athletics and activities help produce well-rounded individuals with a deep appreciation of citizenship, sportsmanship and creativity.
Art
This is much more than the making of art; it is the learning about others, about ourselves, and about the world.
The Boise School District’s approach to art curriculum includes more than the making of art. Art’s role in time, place and culture is considered and students learn to make judgments and form personal opinions about the nature of art, beauty and artistic experiences.

Music
Boise schools pride themselves on having a passionate focus on music education. All elementary students receive music instruction. In addition, an impressive array of opportunities are provided for junior and senior high students. Several recent studies have indicated the connection between the arts and academic success and graduation rates.
All of our kindergarten through 6th-grade students participate in general music class. In addition, all 5th and 6th-grade students are provided the opportunity to take band, orchestra, and choir. At the secondary level, students can join band, orchestra, several different types of choir classes and even a college-level advanced placement course in Music Theory.
Our students are also taught art curriculum at the elementary level, with pottery, photography and fine arts classes provided at all junior high schools and high schools. As well, three college-level advanced placement courses in Studio Art 2D, Studio Art 3D, and Drawing are available to high school students.

Parent Groups
Parent volunteers are a vital part of the success of our schools. The Foundation provides many opportunities to assist parent groups with fundraising guidelines and managing finances.
We encourage our parent groups to collaborate with each other and share their success stories. To access those stories, our Foundation forms, guidelines, processes and procedures for successful fundraising activities, click here.
COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
By partnering with a host of extraordinary organizations throughout the Boise community, our community schools provide invaluable services and educational opportunities to students, their families, and the community at large.
These partnerships allow our schools to help students and their families overcome barriers to success and to foster thriving communities prepared to face the future.
A.V.I.D
AVID targets students in the academic middle—B, C and even D students—who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard.
AVID prepares students for college by providing three critical components: 1) the belief that they can and will attend college, 2) exposure to accelerated coursework—and the skills they need to succeed in those classes, 3) a positive academic and social support network.
AVID targets students in the academic middle of who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These students are capable of completing the rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income minority families. AVID pulls these students out of their unchallenging coursework and puts them on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation. The students are supported by the AVID elective, which is designed to support their accelerated studies. An important piece of the college preparation is taking students as a group to visit Idaho colleges and universities schools they may wish to attend. AVID prepares students for college by providing three critical components: 1) the belief that they can and will attend college, 2) exposure to accelerated coursework—and the skills they need to succeed in those classes, 3) a positive academic and social support network.
AVID is working. More than 84% of AVID students go on to college. And it is growing, there are currently 1,000 students participating in AVID Boise Schools at every junior and senior high school. Your donation will help provide college scholarships, transportation for college visits, and program supplies.
