Art

This is much more than the making of art; it is the learning about others, about ourselves, and about the world.

The Boise School District’s approach to art curriculum includes more than the making of art. Art’s role in time, place and culture is considered and students learn to make judgments and form personal opinions about the nature of art, beauty and artistic experiences.

Music

Boise schools pride themselves on having a passionate focus on music education. All elementary students receive music instruction. In addition, an impressive array of opportunities are provided for junior and senior high students. Several recent studies have indicated the connection between the arts and academic success and graduation rates.

All of our kindergarten through 6th grade students participate general music class. In addition, all 5th and 6th grade students are provided the opportunity to take band, orchestra and choir. At the secondary level, students can join band, orchestra, several different types of choir classes and even a college level advanced placement course in Music Theory.

Our students are also taught art curriculum at the elementary level, with pottery, photography and fine arts classes provided at all junior high schools and high schools. As well, three college level advanced placement courses in Studio Art 2D, Studio Art 3D and Drawing are available to high school students.
